Almost the end of week. Where has the time gone? This week has flown by really quickly. I imagine part of that is because of the holiday on Monday, and no work...also, being sent home yesterday, and less work...I'm seeing a trend here...I believe I have discovered a formula for fun...
The absence of work = fun - Woot! I should publish this! I'll be famous! But, like all formulas, there is a downside. The absence of work means a slow in the flow of currency which in turns effects the amount of fun one is able to have...hmm...I should ponder this. *ponders* Ah ha! I have the solution! Wanna hear it? Yea? Fanfiction! Woot! Cheap and easily accessible! Yes! Life has meaning once again!
Ok, rambling and general craziness aside, here's what I plan to do tomorrow. Work. Joy of Joys. Then after work, instead of coming home to rest and relax with the many stories I need to catch up on I am headed about 15 minutes from my house to take part in a our local Relay for Life.
If you don't know what that is, its an event that started a couple years ago by a doctor who wanted to raise cancer awareness and money for his patients. He walked around a college track for 24 hours. People paid $25 to walk with him for 30 minute increments. I believe he raised around $25,000 that one night. Since then, Relay for Life has become the largest volunteer based fundraiser for the American Cancer Society. There are events hosted all across the U.S. and in more than 20 countries, I think even a couple have happened online.
Cancer hasn't touched my life personally, but it has touched the lives of several of my loved ones, which leaves a mark all its own. I'm very passionate about cancer awareness. I always urge my friends to get yearly physicals and to report to their doctor any changes in their body. But I feel like I need to do more. So every year I give at least $20 to the American Cancer Society, and I also make a separate donation to St. Jude's Hospital in Memphis, Tn.
Now, I've just finished college, so my donations probably won't all of a sudden become larger, but I am doing what I can to raise money. Tomorrow night instead of being reading some awesome fanfiction, I have signed up to walk 3 segments for our team. I chose the late night ones, 12:30, 1:30 & 2:00. Each team has to have a member on the track at all times from the start of the event at 8:00 p.m. till the last lap around 7:00 a.m.
The company I work for has stated that it will donate $10 for every employee that walks and for each guest that we bring. So go us! My company may be alot of things, but this is pretty awesome. I'm very pleased to know that they care enough to do this. Every little bit helps. :)
Oh! And as one of the activities for those of us not walking there is going to be line dancing...Yeehaw!
:)
So, my plans for my Friday night aside, I made a tater tot casserole last night and it was awesome! Go me!
